Hyundai i10 Kappa

Hyundai, the Korean manufacturer is launching a new variant ever so often. The latest addition in their range is the new i10 Kappa, which is an updated version of their famous i10 model. The 'Kappa' is equipped with a new 1.2 liter Kappa engine. According to Hyundai, this new engine results in better power delivery as well as much improved fuel efficiency as well.

The 1.1 liter engine equipped previous i10 has been one of the most successful cars for Hyundai and it will continue to be available in the market, along with the new i10 Kappa. However, with the launch of the new and improved i10 Kappa, the company has improved on what was already a great car to begin with. The Kappa is available in three variants, namely Magna, Sportz and Asta.

The engine capacity of the new variant is has been increased from 1.1 liters to 1.2 liters. The i10 1.2 liter Kappa also comes with an automatic transmission which is something that has never been seen, especially in this segment. The car offers 81 bhp of solid power, which is pretty good for a car of its size and weight. The performance figures of the car are pretty impressive as well. It can do a 0-100km/hr. dash in about 12 seconds flat and has a top whack of 165m/hr.

The all-new Kappa engine was developed over a period of 48 months. It is an all-aluminum, 4 cylinder block that features Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) and breathes through 16 valves. Not only this, the 1.2 liter engine is Euro-V compliant with the CO2 emission level standing at a bare minimum of just 119g/ km which is the lowest ever in this segment of cars. Not only the engine is a technological marvel, but the whole car is packed with some mouth-watering features. Things like sunroof, 2-Din audio system, a red pack interior (for the Sportz version) and some class leading safety features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and dual airbags are present as well. These features, up until now were the forte of higher segment (C and D segment) cars.

Hyundai is pricing the car quite competitively as well, with the Magna going for a launch price of about Rs.3,99,023 whereas the Sportz and Asta are priced at Rs.4,26,869 and Rs.4,85,678, ex-showroom. As expected, the automatic versions are a little expensive than the manual transmission versions but still a great value-for-money proposition nonetheless. Magna Automatic is available for a launch price of Rs.4,44,913 while the automatic versions of Sportz and Asta are available for Rs.4,69,580 and Rs.5,43,644 respectively.

With the launch of the Hyundai i10 Kappa, Hyundai surely has raised the bar in this segment to an all new level and perhaps even redefined the expectations of the consumers of this class.

Hyundai I-Series

After reveling in the success of its i10 car, Hyundai is back to 'work' again. The South Korea-based automobile manufacturer is all planning to launch its entire range of i-series cars in India. The mind-blowing achievement of Hyundai's i10 model in India has encouraged the company to launch its i20 model in October - December 2008. Following soon after, will be the launch of Hyundai i30 and Hyundai i40, in the coming years.

As per HS Lheem, Managing Director and CEO - Hyundai Motors, the company has plans of bringing the entire portfolio of the new i-series cars to India. Hyundai expects i30 and i4, its premium cars in the 'i-series', to have a significant potential in the country, considering the fast growing Indian market for luxury cars. Apart from releasing the new models, Hyundai will also strengthen the i10 portfolio, with a new engine and an automatic transmission

Presently, Hyundai counts amongst the largest car manufacturers in India as well as the second largest importer of cars, next only to Maruti Suzuki. The company is now formulating plans to gear its operations in the country, with the aim of becoming its largest car manufacturer. Amongst the numerous steps taken by it, in this regard, is making India its manufacturing and exports hub, for its small cars. Let us hope that Hyundai manages to realize its aim and woo Indian audience with its new range.
